Botox Cosmetic is the trade name for an anti-aging treatment to correct and repair moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows for people from 18 to 65 years old. It is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the country with almost five million procedures performed in 2008.
Botox is a doctor-administered treatment that should be performed in a clinical setting. If you are considering the procedure, you should consult first with Dr. Tayab who can advise you if the procedure is right for you or if another procedure would be more suitable for your needs.
During the consultation, you should tell everything about your previous and current medical conditions, especially if you have any disease affecting your muscles and nerves. You should also talk about any prescription and non-prescription medicines, herbal products, and health supplements that you have taken or are presently taking.
The doctor will inform you about unlikely but possible side-effects of the Botox treatment. Most people do not have any problems or experience any side effects. Side effects are generally mild and treated easily. It is very important that if you experience any physical symptoms after you had the procedure, you should promptly inform your doctor or immediately get medical help.
During the actual procedure, the doctor will inject the Botox directly into the targeted muscles of your face. The treatment works by inhibiting the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles that were injected. This reduces the activity of the muscles that cause the frown lines or wrinkles.
The entire procedure for the Botox treatment will take about ten minutes and there is no recovery time needed. Before the procedure, the doctor may numb the area to be injected with either an anesthetic cream or a cold pack. During the actual injection, you may feel a little discomfort for a very short time. You can go back to your work or go home within the same day after the procedure.
The results for each patient will vary, but you will see the full results of the treatment within five to seven days after the procedure. You will notice the moderate or severe frown lines in your brows and other facial areas treated will be reduced and become smooth. You can still make facial expressions such as frowning or looking surprised, but without the lines or wrinkles between your eyebrows or on other facial areas.
The results of the Botox treatment will generally last from four to five months. Afterwards, you can resume the treatment. If you do not continue the treatment, the lines between your brows will gradually return as they were before.
