Juvederm Dermal Filler
Juvederm is a smooth consistency gel that is made from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, muscles and tendons of humans. It also comes from an organic non-animal source and is proven to be safe.
Just like other dermal fillers, the Juvederm treatment is used to add, correct and restore volume and hydration to aging skin. But the difference of Juvederm is its cross linked ability, a process that chemically binds the chains of the hyaluronic acid so that it transforms into a gel that would endure much longer after it is injected into the facial skin.
There are two formulations of Juvederm: the Juvederm Ultra - a higher cross-linked formula for shaping and adding volume to facial folds and wrinkles; and Juvederm Ultras Plus - a much higher cross-linked formula for adding volume and correcting deeper facial folds and wrinkles.
The Juvederm gel is applied as dermal filler that is injected under the facial skin and requires little recovery time. The procedure can be administered to you in the doctor's clinic and within the same day, you can resume your daily activities.
Before the procedure, your physician would ask about your medical history such as if you have any allergies and the medications you are currently taking. The doctor would examine the soft tissues in your face so he can evaluate the depth of your folds and wrinkles and customize the treatment according to your needs.
Before the actual treatment, the doctor could inject anesthesia or apply anesthetic cream to numb the areas to be injected. He will inject the Juvederm into the mid to deep dermis of your facial skin. The entire procedure takes only about 15 minutes and you will immediately see the visible results.
The smooth consistency gel nature of Juvederm makes it flow easily into your skin after injection and it offers a natural and smooth feel and look.
The specific uses of Juvederm include:
- Correcting and repairing facial lines and wrinkles
- Shaping facial contours such as correcting the shapes of cheeks and chin
- Correcting and removing smile lines
- Filling in of hollow places and scars on the face
- Augmentation and enhancement of the lips
The doctor would advise you to avoid strenuous physical activities, excessive heat or sun exposure, and consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours after the treatment. These precautions will minimize the risks for temporary itching, redness and swelling at the treated areas.
You could still experience some temporary injection related reactions such as bumps, firmness, pain, redness, and swelling after the treatment. They would usually clear up on their own within seven days after the treatment. You can apply some ice pack to the treated areas that show any swelling.
