The CoolGlide Vein Therapy uses a machine called as the CoolGlide Excel, which uses a high-power, long-pulse laser technology. The CoolGlide machine has several advantages over other laser-based treatments for vascular disorders. It emits a long pulse wavelength of 1,064 nanometers (nm), which is a longer wavelength effective for treating various vascular lesions such as telangiectasia, reticular leg veins, spider veins, and varicose veins that are located on various parts of the body.

How the CoolGlide works
During the treatment session, the CoolGlide machine emits pulses of light energy to the areas to be treated. The pulses cause the blood in the veins to coagulate and the vessels that are destroyed are then absorbed by your body. The flow of the blood will then be redirected to the veins that are deep below the surface of your skin.
When the laser passes over the treated area, you might experience a stinging sensation that is tolerable, but maybe unpleasant. If you have a low tolerance for minor pain, the health care professional could apply a topical anesthetic on the areas to be treated. After the treatment session, the stinging sensation would easily fade away.
Immediately after the session, you might experience some bruising, mild reddening and swelling on the treated areas. The side effects would usually last for a maximum of 24 hours. You can resume with your normal daily activities immediately after the procedure, but it is advisable if you refrain from strenuous physical activities in the first 24 hours after the procedure. You should also apply sunscreen to the treated areas that would be exposed to the sun and try to limit your sun exposure.
